Malacanang has just announced that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared June 30, 2010 (Wednesday) a special non-working holiday through Proclamation No. 2085. June 30 is the schedule of the presidential inaugural ceremonies for the incoming President of the Republic of the Philippines, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
As stated in Proc. 2085, “it is fitting and proper that all citizens of our country be given full opportunity to witness and welcome this historic event in the life of the nation.”
This is not exactly a long weekend, preferred by those who want to take a 3-day vacation, because the non-working holiday falls on a Wednesday. And because it falls in the middle of the week, Pinoy Entrepreneurs may be forced to require its employees to work, which means one thing: added cost in the form of holiday pay.
For a discussion on how to compute holiday pay for special non-working holidays, please read this previous post: Computation of Holiday Pay. See also complete list of 2010 holidays.
