It seems many are planning their vacations way ahead of schedule. This early (this article was originally posted in November 2007), there are hits to this site searching for 2008 national holidays (see also 2007 holidays; 2009 holidays) in the Philippines. Providing a fixed list of holiday dates is difficult because most of the 2008 regular holidays and nationwide special holidays are movable, as provided under Republic Act 9492 (an Act rationalizing the celebration of national holidays). For these movable holidays, the President is tasked by law to issue a Proclamation, at least 6 months prior to a movable holiday, fixing the specific date of that non-working day. Here’s the list of Philippine holidays under RA 9492, unless the Proclamation is indicated:
| National Regular Holidays and Special Non-Working Holidays (unless otherwise indicated as a special non-working holiday, the holiday listed is a regular holiday) | |
| New Year’s Day | January 1, 2008* |
| Maundy Thursday | March 20, 2008* |
| Good Friday | March 21, 2008* |
| EDSA People Power (special non-working) | February 25, 2008 (Monday)* |
| Araw ng Kagitingan (Bataaan and Corregidor Day) |
April 7, 2008 (Monday nearest April 9)* |
| Labor Day | May 1, 2008 (Thursday)** |
| Independence Day | June 9, 2008 (Monday nearest June 12)* |
| Ninoy Aquino Day (special non-working) | August 18, 2008 (Monday nearest August 21)* |
| National Heroes Day | August 25, 2008 (Last Monday of August* |
| Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) | October 1, 2008* (per Proclamation No. 1625) |
| All Saints Day (special non-working) | November 1, 2008* |
| Bonifacio Day | December 1, 2008 (Monday nearest November 30)* |
| Christmas Day | December 25, 2008* |
| Additional special (non-working) day | December 26, 2008 (Friday)*** |
| Additional special (non-working) day | December 29, 2008 (Monday)*** |
| Rizal Day | December 30, 2008 (Tuesday)** |
| Last Day of the Year (special non-working) | December 31, 2008* |
| New Year’s Day | January 1, 2009* |
| Additional Special Non-Working Holiday | January 2, 2009* (Proc. 1695) |
The Eidul Adha shall be celebrated as a regional holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). (Notes: Malacanang already issued Proclamation 1463, fixing the holidays for 2008. Those with asterisks [*] are fixed/final dates; those with [**] are not Mondays, as fixed in Proclamation 1463 contrary to the provision of RA 9492 that it should be in the nearest Monday; the date with [***] is a non-working holiday added by Proclamation 1463.) Enjoy the long weekends, everyone!

Hi..I just wanna ask why is that I am not entitled for Holiday Pay?
I am probationary employee.,I took a leave last Dec 22 until January 5, 2009. Given the fact that I didn’t report on the 24th and 5th of January., which is before and after the long holiday vacation.
Should I not be entitled for the holiday pay even for the official holidays only like Dec 25 and January 1.,? or/and special non-working holiday like Dec 24 and Dec. 31? Thnx…

our service provider for manpower bill us the paternity leave of his employee for 7 days and according to the service provider we are the one to pay for the paternity leave of the employee. but the service provider send reliever for 7 days and we pay the reliever. I review the service agreement, and there is no indication that we have to pay for any paternity leave. i have talk to one from dole and she said that the paternity leave of the employee shall shoulder by the employer and not the client.
