July 27 a National Holiday and the SONA

First things first. The first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino is scheduled on Monday, 26 July 2010., at 4:00 p.m. (see full text of SONA 2009, 2008, 2007).

Many are expecting that it will be declared a holiday. If you’re one of them, you’re up to a big disappointment. There’s no Proclamation that it’s a holiday and the pronouncements of Malacanang made it clear that there will be none.

If it’s any consolation, 27 July 2010 was declared as a nationwide holiday, to commemorate the founding anniversary of Iglesia ni Cristo (per R.A. 9645). See list of 2010 Holidays.

The bad news for those who love holidays, and Pinoy Entrepreneurs are most likely not one of those, is this — while July 27 is a national holiday, it’s a WORKING holiday.
