GoNegosyo’s Youth Entrepreneurship Summit (September 27, 2010)

It’s beyond dispute that the youth of today has more opportunities in their plate, so to speak, than the youth of yesterday. A steadily growing body of information is just a click away, all for free. Trainings, seminars, summits and other events are readily available — for free — for those who are interested in business and entrepreneurship. Take the Youth Entrepreneurship Summit, for instance.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Summit, spearheaded by the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (which you’d readily recognize as GoNegosyo), is happening on Sept. 27, 2010, at the World Trade Center. Admission is free. The event, according to GoNegosyo’s John Paul Uminga, is expecting at least 20,000 participants. The aim is to inspire young Filipinos to be ‘enterprising’. Just so you won’t forget:

SEPTEMBER 27, 2010
WORLD TRADE CENTER, PASAY CITY
8:00 AM TO 6:00 PM

The Youth Entrepreneurship Summit, in a nutshell according to GoNegosyo’s website: “The Go Negosyo Youth Entrepreneurship Summit is a one-day forum/expo which aims to promote entrepreneurial success among all Filipinos, particularly the youth. There will be seminars and insightful discussions with experienced Go Negosyo Angelpreneurs and mentors pertaining to all the basics of going into business such as spotting the right opportunities, marketing, financing, product development and innovation. Government leaders will also be sharing their views on the need for entrepreneurship development in the country.” Go here to read more.

I wish this type of event was available during my younger years. Maybe there were similar activities that I just didn’t know about, and even if I knew about such activities, I most probably won’t attend. Rephrasing my previous statement, this is the type of event that I wish I’ve attended if available during my younger years.

There will be heavy marketing, both my sponsors and non-sponsors alike, but that’s part of this kind of event. There will be a sea of humanity, but a successful entrepreneur must learn to harness the market. There will be tons of enthusiasm, which hopefully will be shared by all who attend. There will be some who won’t get what the fuss is all about, but either you’ll affirm that it’s not for you or you’ll revisit it later in life. There will be ideas that the youth would think are too large at this point in their lives, but ideas should be allowed to germinate and grow in their heats and minds, to bear fruit later on. There will be many ideas and products “sold” here, but an entrepreneur must learn to spot the chaff from the grain.

There will be disappointments and problems later on in implementing the ideas picked up in the Summit, but disappointments and problems are simply challenges that distinguish an entrepreneur from the pack.

This is the type of event that I wish I’d attend if available during my younger years. But that’s just me.

Rene, there’s no entrance fee. It’s free, as noted in the article and the materials provided by GoNegosyo (which also states: “You simply have to drop by the event and fill-out the registration forms. Drop those registration forms at the designated drop boxes for a chance to win exciting prizes.”). This is different from the Filipino Franchise Show (though we saw the GoNegosyo booth at the Franchise Show). Good luck.
