The government has declared August 5, 2009 (Wednesday) a national special non-working holiday, in honor of former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino. Tita Cory, as she is fondly called, passed away on 1 August 2009, at 3:18 a.m. She will be buried on August 5 and the holiday, contained in Proclamation No. 1851, is meant to [...]

2010 Holidays: Official National and Regular Holidays in the Philippines

Icon Written on Monday, 3 August 2009

This early, right before the declaration of August 5, 2009 as a special non-working holiday, the government issued the list of declared holidays for 2010. Good for those who’d want to prepare for their business (and vacation) schedules. The Philippine holidays listed below are under Republic Act 9492 and Proclamation 1841, unless otherwise indicated.

Poll: Effect of More Holidays on the Economy

Icon Written on Wednesday, 8 April 2009

Just a while ago, the Executive Secretary issued Proclamation No. 1752, declaring April 11, 2009 a special non-working holiday. This is obviously not one of the original holidays for 2009 (see list here) declared through Proclamation No. 1699. Icon Written on Sunday, 17 February 2008

Someboday asked if 25 February 2008, a Monday, is a special non-working holiday in the Philippines. We’d like to point out that February 25, or the EDSA People Power (some say, EDSA Revolution) anniversary, is not a regular national holiday listed in Republic Act 9492 (an Act rationalizing the celebration of national holidays). It’s not [...]

Icon Written on Friday, 11 January 2008

It seems many are planning their vacations way ahead of schedule. This early (this article was originally posted in November 2007), there are hits to this site searching for 2008 national holidays (see also 2007 holidays; 2009 holidays)  in the Philippines. Providing a fixed list of holiday dates is difficult because most of the 2008 [...]

Icon Written on Tuesday, 18 December 2007

We have previously noted that Bonifacio Day, which is traditionally celebrated every 30 November, remains on that date. The President already issued a Proclamation about this matter; Bonifacio Day is not being transferred to the nearest Monday, which is 3 December 2007.

Half-day work duty on Wednesday, 31 October 2007?

Icon Written on Tuesday, 30 October 2007

Due to the declared regular holidays and special non-working holidays on 29 October 2007, as well as 1 and 2 November 2007, there are only two (2) working days for this week. Sounds great. On the other hand, my wife kept telling me that there’s already a declaration that work for 31 October is only [...]
